EA Installation

Some trading robots come with automatic install packages which you just load to complete an installation. Other robots will require you to install manually, particularly free trading robots. Here is how to complete a simple install of a basic EA file. All that is involved is placing a file in the right place on your computer.

Download your Expert Advisor.
When you download your Expert Advisor, make sure you save it somewhere you can find easily, such as your desktop. If it is a zipped file you will need to unzip it before it will function correctly. In Windows Vista this is done by clicking the “extract all” link and then specifying where you want the unzipped files to go to. If you do not have Windows Vista you may need to download an unzipping package like Winzip in order to extract the file(s) into a state you can work with.

Copy your Expert Advisor file. This is the document that ends in “.ex4” or “.mq4” NOT the folder itself. Do this by right clicking on the file and clicking “copy” (you will be pasting this file into its position after figure 4 below).

Click on your windows start button and then click on MY Computer or Computer. Then double click on C Drive to produce:

Next Double click on Program Files to produce:

Now double click on Meta Trader Folder to produce:

Now double click Experts Folder to produce:

Now right click anywhere inside the experts’ folder screen and click “paste”. You should now see the Expert Advisor in the Experts Folder. Close the folder and launch Meta trader using the icon on your desktop.

In the navigator frame under Expert Advisors you will now see your EA (Example_EA) Notice that on the tool bar of the metatrader platform the icon EXPERT ADVISORS has a red square highlighted - as featured below. Left click on your EA name and drag the EA across to the chart window.

A window will appear in the middle of your screen. Make sure all the boxes are checked as below and then click ok.

You will now see that your EA’s name appears in the top right hand corner of the chart window and that it has an X next to it – as below

On the tool bar of Meta Trader click on tools and then select options. Select the Expert advisors Tab and a window will appear. Make sure all the boxes are checked as below and then click OK

You will now notice that on the tool bar tab EXPERT ADVISORS has a green play button icon highlighted - as below

In the top right hand corner of your chart window you will notice that your EA’s name now has a smiley face on the right.

This indicates that your EA is working properly.
